A different sort of bunch of flowers

There’s nothing like a bunch of fresh flowers to brighten up a house.

Can you guess what these are?

Yellow jonquils are starting to make their appearance now, and daffodils won’t be far behind. We’re fortunate here in WA, the lovely yellow spring bulbs usually appear in the middle of our winter to add a sunny touch of yellow to our homes on a dismal, rainy, winter’s day.

I don’t have any yellow spring bulbs planted, but today I found something else yellow and sunny looking. Have you guessed what they are yet.

It’s broccoli

Our  broccoli is almost ready to go to seed. I started trimming the flowers out today, leaving the side shoots to continue developing. I was about to throw the flowers in the compost, and then it dawned on me how sunny they looked. The worms will have to wait a few days longer to feast on these little beauties. In the meantime, they’ll add a sunny touch to our dining room table.

    1. I had them cut and bunched together for the compost before I realised they were quite pretty. I don’t know how long they’ll last in water. – time will tell.
