There’s nothing like a bunch of fresh flowers to brighten up a house.

Yellow jonquils are starting to make their appearance now, and daffodils won’t be far behind. We’re fortunate here in WA, the lovely yellow spring bulbs usually appear in the middle of our winter to add a sunny touch of yellow to our homes on a dismal, rainy, winter’s day.
I don’t have any yellow spring bulbs planted, but today I found something else yellow and sunny looking. Have you guessed what they are yet.

Our broccoli is almost ready to go to seed. I started trimming the flowers out today, leaving the side shoots to continue developing. I was about to throw the flowers in the compost, and then it dawned on me how sunny they looked. The worms will have to wait a few days longer to feast on these little beauties. In the meantime, they’ll add a sunny touch to our dining room table.
That is so clever!!!

They look very pretty in a vase. Carrot flowers are nice too.

I’ll have to have a look, I can’t say I’ve ever seen carrots flowering.

You may not have let them go to seed. They are white and very tiny and lacy.

I just had a look on line. They are very pretty, so I think I’ll have to let some go to seed.

what a wonderful idea….I often put basil in a tall glass on the window ledge, helps repel flies that want to come inside in winter…lol often the basil has gone to seed..

I hadn’t planned to put them in a vase. I’d cut them for the compost, but when I bunched them together I thought they looked quite pretty.

What a wonderful idea Chris. An edible centrepiece! ( well, sort of!)

I have used lots of it in soups even though it’s flowering. Still tastes great, but I think this crop is just about at the end now.

I had them cut and bunched together for the compost before I realised they were quite pretty. I don’t know how long they’ll last in water. – time will tell.
