Introducing ‘Georgie Girl’

We’ve done it – we’ve bought an old Avan.

She’s old, 23 years in fact, but she looks to be in reasonable shape. She’s small, so she fits into the available space we have in our unit. At the moment, she’s pretty well lacking in any character, as are most of the Avan Aliner’s. Hence, the older van – it seems more appropriate to be adding our own stamp to an older van, than it does to a newer, more expensive one. Not to mention the cost of a newer one in the first place.

The interior of Avans are quite cold and characterless in appearance. It’s going to be a challenge to transform this one into something that has warmth, style and character. We will be picking her up next week-end. Be sure to watch this space as she shed’s ‘her dowdy feathers and flies’.

    1. Yes Lindsay. The plan was no more caravans, and to go on shorter overseas holidays. But we missed the road trips, missed them heaps! House downsized – no room for a caravan. Car had been changed to small hybrid with 400kg towing capacity. Car now upsized to Forester, dog has been to vets and will now be on Prozac when travelling (the main reason we gave it all away – anxious, hyper-vigilent dog). And we can fit in an Avan Aliner (even the Avan cruiseliner is to big for our space). It’ll have to do….. We’ll make it do.

    1. Avans are fabulous little campers, campers which most of the owners seem to love. It’s something that was on our horizon long before we even purchased the fifth wheeler. They are somewhat dull though, and my usual go too, white, just isn’t going to cut it with this project. I have some ideas, but I’ll have to wait till we pick her up and give her a good clean before I think more on that. I love the name too, I figured that being the age she is, she deserves to have a name. I think it’s going to suit her.
